Ron Kaandorp

I am employed as the coordinator of the Earth Sciences Bachelor Program and as a lecturer in the Sedimentology and Stratigraphy Group of the department of Earth Sciences of the Vrije Universiteit Amsterdam. Lectures include rock determination, mapping and field campaigns in the Belgian Ardennes and Spain. As such I coordinate the second year’s field campaign in the Sierra de Albarracín, near Teruel, Spain.

During my PhD I have worked as an isotope geochemist on the chemistry of bivalves in the Loreto department, northeastern Peru. Comparing growth increments of modern freshwater bivalves of an Amazonian floodplain lake with the chemistry of ambient water resulted in a proxy for Miocene water chemistry, that on its turn gave insight in Miocene seasonality.
