Research interests

  • Evolution of metamorphic rocks: high- and ultrahigh-pressure rocks, Pressure-Temperature-time paths of metamorphic rocks, the relation between metamorphism and deformation (macro and microstructures).

  • Geodynamics of mountain belts, in particular the Betic Cordillera, Rhodope, and Alps in Europe, the Dabie Shan in China and the Altai Nuur and Darib Range of western Mongolia.

  • Fluid-rock interaction of eclogites in subduction zone settings.

    Ph.D. Utrecht University 2000

My Ph.D. project dealt with the thermal evolution of high-pressure metamorphic rocks in the Alps. I tackled the problem by carrying out detailed structural and petrological mapping in two small areas in the Alps, and collecting samples from a third. I reconstructed their retrograde structural and metamorphic history and compared the PTt-paths with results from numerical simulations.

Ph.D. Thesis: Brouwer, F.M., 2000, Thermal evolution of high-pressure metamorphic rocks in the Alps. Geologica Ultraiectina 199, 221 pp. Degree conferred on November 20th, 2000.
Supervisors: Profs Reinoud Vissers and Rinus Wortel, Utrecht University, Netherlands.

More information about my Ph.D. project, an abstract of my thesis, as well as some conference abstracts, can be found elsewhere.
